 Pool Chemicals

Stabilized Chlorine

TRICHLORO-S-TRIAZINETRIONE (Tablets)

Available Chlorine Content:  90%
PH:  2.8
To Be:  Used in a floating dispenser or in the skimmer basket
Advantages:  Easily handled, slow disolving, good for chlorinators, chlorine residual stabilized
Disadvantages:  Reduces TA, lowers PH, stabilizer may exceed range of 30-50ppm

SODIUM DICHLORO-S-TRIAZINETRIONE (Granular)

Available Chlorine Content:  62%
PH:  6.7
To Be:  Dilluted and broadcast around pool
Advantages:  Easily handled, fast disolving, little effect on PH, chlorine residual stabilized
Disadvantages:  Most costly chlorine sanitizer, stabilizer may exceed range of 30-50ppm

Non-Stabilized Chlorine

CALCIUM HYPOCHLORITE (Granular)

Available Chlorine Content:  65%
PH:  11
To Be:  Dilluted and broadcast around pool (should be pre-disolved before application)
Advantages:  Effective algae killer when used with a poly quat algaecide, economical, easily handled, no significant decomposition
Disadvantages:  Raises PH and TA, increases calcium hardness, on initial application it may cause cloudy water, chlorine residual of pool dissipates rapidly in sunlight, should not swim for 8 hours after application

SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE (Liquid bleach)

Available Chlorine Content:  10.3%
PH:  13
To Be:  Broadcast around pool or used with an injector pump
Advantages:  Completely miscible in water, as bulk liquid least expensive source of chlorine sanitizer
Disadvantages:  Bulky and heavy to handle, bleaches clothes, carpets, etc., raises PH, significant decomposition in storage, high TDS, chlorine residual of pool dissipates rapidly in sunlight

Bromine

1-BROMO-3-CHLORO-5.5-DIMETHYLHYDANTION (Bromine tabs)

Available Bromine Content:  61%
Available Chlorine Content:  27%
PH:  4
To Be:  Used in a floating dispenser or in the skimmer basket
Advantages:  Less odor than chlorine, will not cause eye or skin irritation to bathers, slow disolving for continual release of bromine, works at a wide PH range, does not have to be stabilized with cyanuric acid
Disadvantages:  Reduces PH and TA, expensive
