  • 9 Things You Should NEVER Flush Down The Toilet
Friday, September 9, 2016

  1. Paper towel - This type of paper is not designed to break down in water like toilet paper
  2. Cigarette butts - They are full of incredible toxic chemicals that may end up in the water supply.
  3. Band-aids - Made of non-biodegradable plastic and will not decompose.
  4. Dental floss - Despite feeling like string, dental floss is not biodegradable. Once flushed, it loves to wrap itself around other objects in the pipeline, making tiny clogs bigger in an instant.
  5. Cotton balls & swabs - It may seem like these tiny bathroom tools would eventually get soggy and breakdown but they don’t. They eventually gather together in bends of the pipes, causing massive blockages.
  6. Prescription medication - Don’t need the rest of those pills? Some think they are doing the right and safe thing by flushing them, but it’s actually very dangerous. These drugs destroy bacteria, contaminate groundwater supplies and can have terrible effects on wildlife downstream. Find a place near you that will properly disposed your unused medication.
  7. Tampons and pads - They simply don’t breakdown as they are designed to absorb moisture and expand which can cause a severe backup in your pipe system.
  8. Condoms - These latex prophylactics are like kryptonite for septic tanks and sewage treatment plants. Never ever ever ever flush these down the toilet.
  9. Cooking grease/food - Grease should never be poured down any drain, period. It may look like a liquid that can easily be dumped down a drain, but when it cools, it will congeal and clog up your pipes.
