  • How to Properly Add Chemicals to Your Hot Tub
Wednesday, September 7, 2016

Adding chemicals to your hot tub is a pretty straight forward task. However, there are some basic rules you should follow to ensure your hot tub water is as clean and healthy as possible:

1. Test Your Hot Tub.

Test your hot tub water to make sure the pH and Alkalinity levels are balanced before adding any chemicals. Chlorine and shock work best when the water is properly balanced.

2. Keep the hot tub running and turn the jets on while adding treatments.

The jets will help mix the chemicals well into the hot tub water.

3. Keep the cover off.

Chemicals (specifically “shock” and chlorine) need to circulate and oxidize. We recommend leaving the cover off for at least 15 minutes after adding any chemicals.

4. Turn off the air.

Some hot tubs have air valves around the top. Chemicals like shock and chlorine wont effectively do their job when air is introduced making them “gas off” to quickly. We recommend turning off the air when adding chemicals.

5. Pre-measure Chemicals Before Adding.

It’s always a good idea to pre-measure your hot tub chemicals before adding. Be sure to read the label on your chemicals to make sure you’re adding the right amount. not only dies this ensure proper treatment, but it will help save you a little money on your chemical consumption.

6. Test Your Hot Tub Again.

Test your hot tub water again to ensure it is balanced before use.
